Spring Term 2010 has been a very busy time for staff and pupils alike in the Bodmin Family of schools, with a variety of sporting activities taking place across the cluster. I would personally like to say a special thanks to all the Sports Leaders at Bodmin College who without their patience, commitment and dedication many of these events would be unable to run. Keep up the good work guys. The Leaders come from Year 13/12/11/10 and Year 9 some of whom are shown in the photographs. Thanks also go to the staff and parents of pupils who give up their time to enable them to attend the activity festivals/leagues.

So what has been going on? There has been the Soccer and Netball Leagues which take place every alternate Tuesday in the College sports Hall, which again have proven to be very popular with 8 teams competing in the Soccer and 6 in the Netball. Fighting for top honours in the soccer which is extreemly close are St Petroc's,  Nanstallon and Berrycombe Primary Schools.

Tuesday 9th March saw the first 'Street Cheer Extravaganza', which proved to be extremely popular. It involved over 80 pupils (both boys and girls) from years 1 to year 6. The session was run by Karen Wood (PE Teacher at Bodmin College) and included help from the College Sports Leaders. The students were taught a simple routine, as well as other simple skills that could be used to develop their sequences when back in their schools. It is hoped that this will be used to increase informal activity in the playground or as part of a new idea for curriculum time. It was lovely to see staff and parents joining in with the session.

Schools also had the opportunity of having a re-launch of the Playground Leaders Sessions by two of our senior students (Lauren Abraham and Lucy Dawe) who did 3-4  activity sessions with Year 5/6 and in some cases Year 2's. The training was aimed at helping pupils to develop small informal playground activity opportunities as well as enhancing their own leadership skills at a young age.

Spring also saw the start of a pilot scheme to run a Leadership Academy at the College. Many students applied but eventually 16 students  from the Year 9-13 age group were chosen to develop their leadership skills as well as helping with a Key Stage 1 Multi Skills Club for the local area. More news about this will be found in the summer newsletter. Thanks however must go to Ashley Bradshaw for his part in the development of the Academy.

For the first time the cluster is able to share with you some of the good practice taking place within the cluster to encourage and promote the participation in physical activity. This terms report comes from Blisland Primary School.  (Many thanks to Mr Knibbs and Lewis for their time and enthusiasm)

Forthcoming Events for Summer 2010: Festivals of Rounders/Athletics/Orienteering and X-country.
