BIKEABILITY
Following the submission of a successful bid for this scheme, Bikeability training started in January 2008 -Since then Poltiar School Sport Partnership has become an accredited Bikeability Centre with training provided via the School Sport Partnership.
Training in the Partnership is being provided by Steve Rowsell, Jackie Eason, Wendy Creed, vincent Cox and Keith Cotterill - all accredited trainers with vast experience. In some cases, schools that have trained Cyclewise Instructors are using them to assist with Bikeability in order to provide a better overall training programme and to allow more children to be trained.
Whilst we may all moan about the government - the funding for this programme has come about following pressure from Cycling England. The government responded by making money available via School Sport Partnerships in order to provide the training for pupils.
Bikeability is not a learn to ride programme. It is aimed at children who have good bike control but little or no experience of riding on roads. Its aims make children safe and aware when they are on roads and so help prevent some of the unnecessary deaths that occur on our roads.
38 schools in the Partnership registered to participate and to date 29 schools have completed their training.
SAFE RIDING!
